The English Speaking Women's Association(ESWA) was founded in 1985 to:
1. Promote friendship between the associates;
2. Increase our understanding of Guinea;
3. Raise money through our social activities in order to assist those in need in Guinea,
particularly women and children.
ESWA is non-political and non-profit making.
During the past few years, ESWA fundraising has provided a monetary contribution to many locally managed development projects that benefit the people of Guinea; these projects include, among others:
- Self-help programs for communities
- Providing toilets and security bars and doors for schools
- An internet training for the youth in Kankan
- Women's rights and empowerment
- AIDS and malaria prevention campaigns including the distribution of mosquito nets
- Modernization of agriculture skills including improved rice crops and moringa plantation
Additionally, ESWA is very involved in two orphanages, The Mission of Hope and the Regina Maris Orphanage both located in Conakry. Activities for these orphanages include food distribution, clothing and bedding distribution, frequent visits and lots of hugs. More information on these establishments can be found on the website.
The English Speaking Women's Associations also accepts grant proposals for small project funding twice a year. Proposal guidelines and applications can be found on the website.
